Modernization and transformation of the Parish Hall into an education center  of excellence for spiritual formation and to serve the community, with improved accessibility and equipped for year-round use.

The Refresh Project undertakes modernization and transformation of the Parish Hall in a dozen project areas, specifically designed to create 3 education rooms (the current 12 Step room and 2 old Sunday School rooms), a large video conferencing room (the old choir room/social justice storage room), and improved classroom/meeting space in the Parlor.  All of this is in order to support St. Paul’s mission and ministry in spiritual formation and education and service to the community. Enhanced accessibility is a primary goal, together with effectively equipping the space for year-round use.

Project Area 1 – Restrooms – The Restrooms will be updated with improved accessibility and new fixtures (sinks, toilets, urinals), floor and wall tiles, lighting and mirrors.

Project Area 2 – Various Additions/Repairs/Replacements – A single entry to the Parlor will be equipped with sliding stackable glass doors, the Parlor drop ceiling may be raised, some other doors will be replaced, certain built-ins removed, a storage cabinet for cleaning supplies built, old venting removed, popcorn ceilings re-textured, and fairly extensive drywall patching carried out in preparation for painting.

Project Area 3 – Lighting – Energy efficient LED lights will be installed in all rooms replacing the old fluorescent and incandescent lights and two new chandeliers will be installed in the Main Hall.

Project Area 4 – Acoustics – Sound dampening acoustic panels will be installed in the Main Hall to mitigate the echo chamber effect/sound reverberation in that area.

Project Area 5 – Wiring – Two of the education rooms and the video conference room will be wired for video conferencing capability.

Project Area 6 – Painting – The entire interior (excluding the ceiling and beams in the Main Hall) will be painted with commercial-grade primer and sound-dampening paint.

Project Area 7 – Flooring – 24” x 48” porcelain tiles will be installed over the exposed concrete floors and new industrial-grade (26 oz.) carpeting installed in all other areas.

Project Area 8 – Window Treatments – Modern window treatments will be installed in the education rooms, video conferencing room and Parlor.

Project Area 9 – Furniture – A large conference table will be installed in the video conferencing room together with additional chairs enabling use of that room by large gatherings. Conference tables and additional chairs will also be installed in two of the education rooms, enabling use of those rooms by smaller meetings. The third education room as well as the Parlor will be equipped with new chairs that may be arranged as best suits the needs of the users.

Project Area 10 – Electronics – A new audio system will be installed in the Main Hall and all of the necessary electronics for video conferencing in the video conferencing room.

Project Area 11 – Main Doors – Based upon feedback from the Patio Parties, ADA-compliant doors will be installed on the main entrance to the Parish Hall to enhance accessibility.

Project Area 12 – HVAC – Also based upon feedback from the Patio Parties, the old swamp coolers and furnace will be retired and replaced with three self-contained units in the Main Hall, designed to enable year-round use of the facility.

Budget and Funding

The Vestry has approved a budget of $300,000 for the project, apart from the new HVAC. Approximately two-thirds of the approved budget and the entirety of the cost of the new HVAC is being funded through the joy-filled generosity of a few parishioners who have made specific donations to the project (in addition to increasing their Annual Appeal Stewardship pledges) together with some grant money. If you are interested in donating to this project, above and beyond your annual pledge, please reach out to the Sr. or Jr. Warden directly.

Yours in Service,

The Parish Hall Refresh Taskforce of the Vestry
